Richard D. Hammer, Founder, President and CEO
BSI President Richard (Dick) Hammer has been a pioneer in the field of Workers' Compensation, having been instrumental in the design and development of specialty insurance services. Dick founded Brentwood Services Inc. in 1990 has built a third party administration and brokerage firm recognized as an industry leader in providing customized workers’ compensation and liability programs.
Dick’s well-rounded perspective on the insurance needs of his clients has been built from over 40 years of experience in the insurance industry. Dick has been instrumental in the design, development and administration of programs for self-insured clients, captive insurance companies, and traditional insurance organizations.
Prior to founding Brentwood Services, Inc., Dick spent 14 years in a number of managerial roles at Corroon & Black (now Willis Corroon). Prior to Corroon & Black, he was with Saint Paul Companies and CNA.
A native of Duluth, Minnesota, Dick holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and economics from the University of Minnesota. Dick is a licensed property and casualty insurance agent. Dick is an active member of both the insurance industry and the community at large, having served on many boards and committees through the years. He currently serves on the Board at Martin Methodist College and the University of Minnesota Duluth Liberal Arts Board.
